The students in Mr. McKeown’s class and Miss Garry’s class partook in Cor Fheile na Scoileanna 2012. It was a great opportunity for the children to showcase their work on stage. It was a very enjoyable and worthwhile day out and the children received very positive feedback from the panel.

We are growing up fast! We completed our very first projects in Room 6. J Teacher was delighted with our hard work and we displayed them in our classroom. We made a timeline of our lives to date. First of all we designed a questionnaire which helped us to gather all the information we would need. We chatted about the information and picked out the main events, one for each year of our lives so far.
Then teacher gave us an empty timeline and we brought it home to complete. We had to draw or stick a picture on for each year. Then we needed to write a sentence to explain the picture and event. We worked really hard and because we are growing up we were able to self assess our work using WILF and our traffic lights. This was great fun and it was really easy to see how we could make our work even better!

Before Easter we covered the Living things strand in our science curriculum. We planted potatoes in a grow bag after discussing and learning about all the things they will need to grow. Now we can see some little shoots and hopefully sometime soon we will have potatoes….!
We also created a grass heads. They were quiet tricky but with the help of Ms Doran and Ms O’Malley we got there in the end! First we got a sock and put in the grass seed. Then we put in the soil. We tied a knot in the bottom and decorated them with googly eyes and foam shapes. We put them into a plastic bowel and watered them. We would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to Ms O’Malley, Ms Kearns and the Easter camp kids who watered them for us over the Easter holidays J

We raised a great amount of money for the schoolin our recent Skipathon. We started practicing the week before the event, and we are glad we did! As teacher always says ‘practice makes perfect!’ We had tremendous fun working in pairs sharing a small rope and helping each other learn how to skip. When we got a little better, teacher showed us how to skip using a long rope! This was GREAT fun, we loved it! We started off running through to the other side without getting the rope caught. Then we tried standing in the middle to skip.
On THE day, the weather was beautiful, the sun was shining brightly thanks to our song ‘ Mr Sun’! It was a close call but we had a boy and a girl winner. Well done and thank you to all who sponsored our class. We were delighted to get our little treat of water and oranges when we came in…. we needed it to refuel for some more hard work in the sun! We took the opportunity to to go outside and finish our maps in the open air!

First class learned all about Easter coming up to the Holidays. We read a lovely story with a special visitor and Ms Doran taught us all about what happened the week before Jesus died on the cross. We used pictures to tell the story. Have a look!
We also did some lovely art around the theme of Easter. Firstly we created some cards for our family or friends. Secondly we got elbows deep in some wallpaper paste and made some paper mache balloons! Sorry for the messy uniforms mums and dads! First of all Ms Doran gave us a balloon with a piece of masking tape for us to write our names. We all brought in a toilet roll and used the roll and paste to cover the balloon. When it was all covered we hung them up to dry. We planned our pattern for homework and then when the balloons dried we used paint to create our design. They looked fantastic. What do you think?

Ms Doran’s ‘Fantastic Frogs’ were working hard as usual last term. We did a huge amount of work on houses and homes. We are able to name and identify different types of houses, such as a bungalow, semi-detached, terraced, to name but a few. We busied ourselves walking around the town locating these and getting inspiration for our constructions. Yes, that’s what we said, construction! We transformed our classroom into a very busy building site. We started in the beginning like an architect would and drew our plans. We collected a huge amount of boxes and cartons which teacher was delighted with J. Then we used our plans to help us build our houses. We painted them all white before we designed the outside. Have a look, we are so proud of them. …..

With spring time in the air, we set to work discovering what the season has to offer. We looked at all the changes that occur when spring arrives, such as the flowers growing, baby animals, swallows returning. We wrote a beautifulspring poem using the letters of spring to start each sentence. Click on ‘spring poem’ to read it! Here’s a picture of our Spring board, paintings and the lambs we did, all about SPRING!!!
